Data Centers & Economic Development

Northwest Indiana is positioned to be a major hub for one of the fastest-growing sectors in the American economy: data centers. As demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure surges, our region offers exactly what developers need — available land, strong power infrastructure, and a skilled union workforce ready to build.

The NWI BCTC and our 31 affiliate unions are eager to put members to work on these projects. Data center construction is large-scale, technically demanding work that requires exactly the kind of highly trained, safety-conscious tradespeople our unions produce. Beyond the construction jobs themselves, data centers generate lasting economic benefits for the communities where they are built — from increased property tax revenue to support for local businesses, schools, and services. We believe that thoughtful community planning, strong labor agreements, and partnerships with local building trades are essential to making sure Northwest Indiana captures the full, long-term benefit of this data center boom for working families across the region.
